So, per request, I have created a special place to share the funny things I experience throughout the school day. Welcome to 1st Grade Funnies and my first official story.
So every child has a different learning style, as well as a different attitude towards learning. Some love it, while some really need that extra little push. Anyways, one of my students really loves to do things her way, while I really love to do things my way (typical teacher right??). To compromise, she does what I ask and I reward her with 2 to 5 minutes of an activity of her choice. We have this down to a T now, so she is fully aware of the drill.
Today, she did her Phonics assignment and moved on to her 2 to 5 minutes of free-choice. While I was helping another student, I look back towards this girl's desk and see her quietly, leaned back in her chair, feet up on her desk, arms at her side and WET PAPER TOWELS OVER HER EYES!!
Real quickly, I pull myself together and stop my serious case of giggles and proceed to ask, "What are we doing over here?" And this student responds (very nicely btw), "Shhhh Miss. Kilgore, I am just relaxing. It is my spa day."
2 minutes later, the paper towels were off her eyes, spa day was over and we were on to the next task...no problems, no fights and no struggles.
